The Importance of Religion in the Middle East

I think the way these things came together for me in part was because Islam was so identified for me with resistance against colonialism against imperialism. I know of course you know that there were uncomfortable overlaps here between religion and Marxism or left secular ideologies but for me I just didn't see it as an issue. There's a mutual reinforcing where the spiritual and ethical dimensions to religion just recharge your energy and commitment through dialectical material analysis.
