The Cost of Parsing

The lack of multiplexing is the only badness if you want to call it that. There have been improvement on the idea of pipelining, where you can send multiple requests without waiting for a response. But again, there are problems with HTTP two, TCP, head of line blocking and things like that. The cost has to be highlighted to using these new protocols.
