In the late sevent s, and gogi watongo was teaching at the university of nirobi. He was also a prominent writer and critic of canyon authorities. On new year's eve 19 77, police busted into his home and hauled him away in the middle of the night. It was never entirely clear why he was arrested. But to ingogi, it was obvious what he'd done wrong. The difference this time was that he wrote in his mother tongue, gukuyu, not english.
