The Importance of Reductive Explanation in Sentience

If something has a very simple programming architecture, if you get a punch on this external limb of this threshold weight, then output pain-like behavior or screen. Then if you were to see whether this robot really felt pain across a wider range of behavioral inputs or stimuli, it wouldn't be able to do it. Now, if it was a case that it had lots of these fifth-end rules that covered all the full range of scenarios, then I'd probably say, well, it seems pretty convincing to me that it is essential in that case. But if it's some sort of very superficial trick, I think you could probably easily uncover that with a sufficiently comprehensive test of it.
