For so many years abortion rights had been like the third rail of Irish politics that politicians just never wanted to go near. Now we're talking Regina Daugherty, Simon Harris, Lee O'Racker, Charlie Flanagan saying suddenly they were reconsidering their position. So I think, you know, politicians weren't in step. They were scrabbling to catch up as it's so often the case with social issues. But you know, boy, they did catch up. And I mean, a referendum wasn't called for another six years and there was a battle to get that referendum. It was a vote loser. That's how it was seen."
