The question of deserving in my view should not be a part of the conversation when it comes to criminal justice. For me, the question rather is how do we have a safer society? How do we deal with the threat of violence? Instead of how do we try to retroactively do justice to the person who did the wrong thing? Currently, we have a retributive justice system where it is fundamentally understood and it is absolutely said that everyone has the free will to do right and wrong.
