How to Predict the Behavior of Other People
We're generally worse at predicting the behaviour of other people than we think we are. Lowenstein goes on to elaborate about this with an interesting line of thought. He argues that the largest source of error when we fail to predict how other people will act, is not misjudging the gap between different people's fundamental tendencies and personalities. Because they mispredict their own behaviour as a result of hot, cold, ympathy gaps, they then mispredict the behaviour of others. And i thought it was interesting how much this sort of alliance with, or at least connects to another psychology con we've done episodes on in the past, the idea of fundamental attribution error.
