The Importance of Empiricism in Science
Empirical rule says whatever I do to establish something is true, it needs to work for you. That's everything that goes on in academia and its journalism. The idea of a fact originates in the law, not in science; before Galileo,. courts needed accounts of the facts in order to make judgments. And it's government. Governments have to be reality-based.
