After reading my essay, Douglas objected that I should not have the right to tell people what to do. Lucy, another Glenn View High student, wrote as follows: If someone wants to buy a new car, they should. And if they need a new suit, get it. You've worked hard to get where you are now, so haven't you earned a right to enjoy it? Isn't capitalism so productive precisely because it rewards people for working hard and taking risks? From that perspective, this idea of reward for effort seems fair. Yet when thinking about fairness, you might also consider that if you are a middle-class person in a developed country, you are privileged to be born into
