Why Psychiatry Is One of the Lowest Reimbursed Specialties

Psychiatry was ranked one of the lowest in compensation among 29 medical specialties. When insurance companies pay per hour of service, sciatry isn't paid very much compared to other kinds of medical services. So if you're a psychiatrist, the only way you can make a living that is commensurate with what you feel like you should be earning is you have to cram as many patients into your hour. And so if we actually paid for those services and allowed the commisions to do that, and that's what they would do.
