Perelman found her true calling as a programmer at BBN Technologies. She designed routing algorithms for DECnet, still widely deployed in the internet today. One of Perelman's first published papers identified a crucial vulnerability in ARPANET. The spanning tree protocol is a marvelous case study in network protocol design.
