The History of the European Languages

The discovery that there was an ancient language which was the ancestor of all these european languages did not occur until the late 17 hundreds. Before that, the actual history of the languages was a mystery. The story begins with the arrival of european traders in india in the 16 hundred. And when the discovery was made, it wasn't made in europe. It was actually made in india, a continent away. In fact, the dutch and portuguese had to leave town altogether.
