When I left WordPress, it was advanced custom fields for everything. And that was awesome plug and so flexible, really good. But now blocks are kind of replacing a lot of that. ACF allows you to also build your own ACF blocks which don't feel as great as native blocks because they're not fully resemble the front end experience. You don't need a ton of PHP knowledge anymore to build really performant, really nice websites on top of WordPress.
In this supper club episode of Syntax, Wes and Scott talk with Fabian Kägy about modern WordPress development, including what the local dev experience is like, changes to the block editor, how version control is handled, and more!
