How Does UX Research Fit Into Design?

UX is the actual research component and the UIs, like the visuals and the aesthetics. I always think research should come first because how can you design a product for your user if you don't know your user? Once you've gotten that initial interaction with your users, it's then still important to continuously be iterative with them.
