Pandora works by way of thing called content filtering. When you like or dislike a song, it sort of throws in these tags to the dislike pool and these tags into the like pool. It comes up with a sort of ven diagram, conceptoally, of the types of songs that you like to listen to. In the case of pandorits a thumb's up or thumbs down. So hit looks a little bit more like classification. But i imagine under the hood, pandora probably does some sort of conversion of your thumb to a score, for example. A score is a number.
