Aquinas' Arguments for the Existence of God
Aquinas offers at least nine or ten arguments for the existence of God. They are not meant to be interpreted without some prior familiarity with Aquinas and Aristotle, he says. He also differs considerably in his argumentative structure from Anselm or Bonaventure,. Descartes, Malabranch or Liveness. As we will see below, this makes this argumentation very different from the kind of argumentation criticized by Emmanuel Kant and Martin Heidegger.
