They're treasonous conspirators who killed a beloved leader and a reformer in order to protect what not the Republic, but vast estates. The phrase, six-symparturranis, uttered by the nobility as they attacked Caesar would be repeated by the likes of John Wilkes Booth before the assassination of Lincoln. In modern day America we tend to see through the claim that the Confederates were freedom fighters for liberty.
