In his own mind, lee decided to spend the night in a tavern. A mounted british patrol surrounded the house and captured lee who happened to be stark naked at the time. Lee spent the next six months in british custody before being exchanged for a captured british general. Given his conduct at monmouth court house, it probably would have been better for the americans to exchange the captured britISH general for a sack of potatoes.
