The Gospels of Luke and Matthew Are Written From a Common Document
The detectives personal conviction that the common elements shared in the gospels of Luke and Matthew are an oral tradition rather than a written document isn't an unreasonable opinion. The author of Luke himself acknowledges that there were many written accounts of Jesus's activity floating around prior to his work. Acknowledging what we would call plagiarism isn't going to help his narrative gimmick.
