i think any situation has its own strange gifts. All simers did offer strange gifts between me and my mother, just in the sense that she loosened and opened up to me in a way she never would have before. And it was sort of like this moment of the wizard of oz finally revealing himself from behind the curtain. i got to see that she struggled with exactly what i had struggled with,. She had so many doubts and questions and and she had never talked about them until that time.
Simultaneously parenting her daughter while caring for a mom who was vanishing into dementia, Maya Shanbhag Lang, found herself reexamining nearly every part of her life, and reimagining how she wanted to tell her own story to her daughter.
