The Revolutionizing Prosthetics Programme
The earliest prosthetic i'm aware of is a carved wooden and leather tob that was used on an egyptian mummy. But major research investments didn't arrive till the early two thousands, when warvots from arac and afghanistan were coming home with missing limbs. The revolutionizing prosthetics program really was a revolution in the field, an unprecedented amount of funding and support for new technology. It's now coming to fruition in some very interesting things, like the restoration of touch to prosthetic limbs and direct brain control.
