Is This a Debate Tactic?

Alex is using an abusive debate tactic to try and make sure the caller has nowhere to go in his box den. Distraction can only really be countered by staying on target. But all too often, in responding to one of the items in alex's laundry list is just too tempting,. The caller doesn't actually do either thing. He doesn't stay on message, and at the same time, he doesn't really respond to something said. Instead, he chooses a new road to go down, which i think he's lost the thread.
