The History of Thanksgiving Day

In 1934, Detroit Lions owner George Richards came up with an idea to play football on Thanksgiving day. Now there's three NFL games on Thanksgiving day, but the Lions are always one of them. The Lions had Barry Sanders, one of the greatest runbacks of all time, retired at 31. He was 1400 yards from breaking the rushing record and would have broken it next season.
