People who are having a lot of distress tolerance issues need training in some basic skills about how to manage when they're feeling emotionally unstable. It's important to note that in dbt, we want to validate hard, strong, difficult, painful emotions. And at the same time, that's the dialectic. We want to say, yes, it's painful. Yes, it's difficult. And we can't punch the wall. But then what you're doing is at least giving that person some semblance of control over their emotions right like some skill that they can at least try.
