Hemingway's Farewell to Arms
It just seems like we often think of war as being an on switch and an off switch. Someone is drafted and then eventually they're discharged. Those are the bookends of the war experience. This one it's more you get the feeling of it's kind of present throughout a countryside. You know that your role in it is no longer something that you need to show up for. Yeah, this first sentence gets us to reconsider the books four and five of a farewell to arms.
