Reformation theology said women and men are equal in the sight of God. The natural response to that is, well, women should be able to preach, teach and lead. And a lot of women actually thought they could and tried it. But what happened is that this theology did not come with just the Bible. We see Paul introduced into sermons, introduced into devotional literature,. He just explodes. Because he provides, if you read it with what you carry a gender hierarchy to the text, then what Paul seems to provide is a divine order for women and men.
