Chavez Ravine has been in Los Angeles since the early 1900s. O'Malley thought he saw a vast, empty stretch of land from the helicopter. But what he was really seeing were the last legs of a community that had existed there for decades. Carol Hawkes is 76 years old now and still lives in Los Angeles. She grew up in Chavez Ravine as a little girl.
