This movie may not seem so offensive now and it's kind of wild over the top outrageous comedy in it Haskell Wexler who also was a DP and also produced the movie has said you know the movie may not any longer be in its social context. While it may not read the same way to a modern audience I can tell you that for me when when I was first exposed this movie like sometime around 1988 or so it introduced me to a kind of filmmaking style that was comedic but also dark.
