Jeff McMahon is Professor of Moral Philosophy at Oxford University and author of Killing in War. Miran: Do you go along with any part of an idea that morality in war should be judged by consequences, a kind of utilitarian calculation of benefits versus harms? Jeff: I think it's very important to realize that a concern with consequences is not necessarily utilitarian. What distinguishes utilitarianism is that it calls for the maximization of good consequences.
