Is There a Sustained Mode in the Operating Room?

The other spontaneous mode used in the operating room is not really a mode at all. It's just, quote, the bag, or manual breathing. When the patient is taken off the ventilator and switched to the bag, they take breaths completely on their own - assuming you don't squeeze the bag to help them. They'll also have no peep unless you close the pop off valve slightly to maintain some positive pressure during expiration. Even though o r anaesthesia is only a limited amount of time we still want to keep these things in due account. So there's reasonable evidence that taking a combination of these things into account can be beneficial.
