The Disadvantages of Synoptic Gospels

I think it's the discovery for me that universal generalizations are not to be trusted. It is the ad hoc disclosure of the particular on which we stake our lives so that the synoptic gospels are not made up of big, Christological formulations. They're made up of particular narrative encounters that are said to have happened in the life of Jesus. So I think we conservatives and we liberals have been seduced in to try to make universal claims when in fact it is really the very particular claims that feed our life and feed our faith.
