The Middle Ground Between Having to Check Every Efficient User
If you want to support something arbitrary, you have no choice but to store everything forever. Secure compaction is trying to find a middle ground between completely append only data structures that are always growing. But the flip side of that is if you're doing the versioning thing, then you have to keep every version that's ever been there. You can't get rid of them.
