Is There a Monopoly in the World?

I think it's the speed with which the free world has kind of come to its senses in connection with the consequential competition with authoritarian revisionist powers, especially China and Russia. There are things I'm surprised at: The self-immolation of American academia is now spreading into the hard sciences. But still, the obsessions go on in the United States; Palo Alto will soon require everybody to take out their gas stoves and hot water heaters and put them back in electric ones.
