Is Persuasion Really Important in Politics?

i am a keen believer in persuasion. And i think we have to try at least to meet them where they are and then persuade them to come along. I've just been in my home state, my ancestral homestate, and a woman was running for governor, and and a bunch of men just sal but a woman can't be governor.
