What Does This Tell Us About Human Development?

DNA found in the inner ear bones of a woman who died around 7,000 years ago shows she was Denisovan. Scientists say her lineage doesn't exist today, which makes it a previously unknown human lineage. The discovery has affected what we knew about humans living in the region while she was alive. If we take a look at the DNA of ancient hunter-gatherers in Southeast Asia, they don't share much ancestry with the Denisovans. We can now assume that Indonesia and its surrounding islands, an area known as Walla-Sia, was a meeting point for a major admixture event between the Denisovaans and modern humans.
