SESP is the smaller conference. It used to be invite only or obviously members could go. But if you were a non member and they, the membership was by election. So it was tougher to get into. They didn't and still don't allow graduate students to give talks. All talks are given by postdocs or by faculty. There's actually two lunches on consecutive days where they give awards. And it has sort of an awkward feature of your 20 year lunch.
