Paul Allen died in 2018. There was no real reason to wait that long to sell them, except they had to sale them for the highest possible amount of money. I think Christie's did it first where they sold a dinosaur during their contemporary art evening sale just to sort of recontextualize these objects and say like, you know what, this is just as impressive as buying Rothko or something.
