The History of Madrid
Today Madrid is famed for its art and architecture, its nightlife and of course football. The earliest recorded history that I've discovered about Madrid goes back to the 9th century when there was a Moorish fortress known as Machardit in Arabic. Now it started to gain prominence when Alphonse VI of Castile conquered Machardit from the Moors around 1085 late 11th century. One soldier called El Gato, cat in Spanish because he scampered up the wall before taking down the Moorish banner.
