The Theme Development Process

Chas: The ideal development process is you've written a series of documents that helped you break down a plot like a story praxis and then you could just immediately open up another window and start rewriting that story but only from the point of view of theme. Beth: I feel like with our last project we knew areas of theme that we wanted to explore but it was only after we'd written the screenplay and frankly two versions of the film. Chas: If it doesn't work in certain sections there's gonna be bits me god I can't, so go back and look at that part of the story because maybe what's happening there is your theme isn't really clearly expressed.
