The Cooperative Eye Hypothesis
Our bodies evolved to optimize for this co operation. We develop the whites of our eyes, which is something that wolves and chimpansies don't have. And it's useful because it telegraphs what we're going to do. This has a downside, of course, an opponent of ours can more easily see what we're looking at or get a sense of what we plan to do. But the prose of co operation outweighed the cons of competition.
