William leaver was the first viscount of lever hume. He took up ball room dancing in his seventies when he was already profoundly deaf, so he couldn't hear the music at all. After a couple of embarrassing incidents where he carried on twirling his partner round the floor after every one else had stopped applauding the band, he came up with ingenious solutions for everything. His inventions included putting a blue light in the ceiling of the ball room in his house and using a foot pedal to stop him from dancing by looking down at his patent leather shoes.
