There is a fear among, especially among several popes, that they are going to completely lose control of the church. And this becomes a major, a political battle between the pope and the holy roman emperor. It's very a melodramatic story, but behind it is this very important a question of who has real power over the day to day workingsof the church on the ground? Is it the monarch, or is it the pope in rome?
