I Love This Country, What's Left Me

The French Revolution was such an epochal interruption, arguably the initiation of political modernity that it configured all subsequent politics. The Southern Revolution is such a sort of transformative event, it creates a generation. In Ireland the other country I work on the maybe the defining event for generations is the great famine of the mid-19th century. So there's a sense that that was such a transformative moment, it almost sets the reset button on society so to speak and you have people that were born before it associated with the mistakes that led to this catastrophe.
