The dividing line in America is no longer between bride or left, the choice is between normal or crazy. The playbook has been to caricature the other party by its most extreme wing and it's been working on both sides. It's a function of how polarized the country is where about half of Democrats regard Republicans as corrupt in a threat to the country.
