Dietary fiber seems to positively impact the gut because it is what's called a prebiotic. Your gut microbiome can produce these short chain fatty acids from, by fermenting this soluble fiber. Supplemented prebiotics seem to work much better than probiotics. The problem with most of the probiotics is they're typically not concentrated enough to actually colonize.
