The KGB in the 80s ran a disinformation campaign that worked to get people, most people, this might be before many people's times, to think that the United States created AIDS in a laboratory. The entire technique was to plant a story in a pro-Soviet Indian newspaper called Patriot. And then they got eventually they flipped newspaper to newspaper to newspaper and all the way to the point of Dan Rather reporting on the CBS evening news. That has now that little KGB technique is the technique of journalists.
