The Nature of the Work Should Dilute Our Response
With something like Annie Hall, it seems to me you can forget Woody Allen in a way that you can't when you watch Manhattan. In the case of Manhattan, the work is amplifying what we know of Allen's own life. And then on the other, you have the Cosby show where what we know are so at odds with the character of Dr. Huxtable. So there's a completely different kind of discomfort that arises from that.
