The true cost of the unlawful system was being exposed, and he struggled to explain why that hadn't caused him to ask further questions about whether the scheme was legal or even whether it was right. His former media adviser Rachael Miller gave damning evidence in those hearings. She previously went on national television to say Tudge had emotionally and physically abused her in their consensual affair. And as you say, Paul, calls for Tudge's resignation have been coming for years now.
