Why Motivation 2.0 Doesn't Work
Motivation 2.0 doesn't work because it takes away a lot of possible creative thinking, says David Frum. If-then rewards are extremely effective for certain kinds of things: algorithmic work or following a rule. But they're far less effective for more complex, creative, conceptual kind of tasks. Use if-then rewards where they work and then, but don't use them where they don't work.
