Dorothy was a reporter in Washington, D.C., when she saw the communists protesting. She prays at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception that she would be able to use her gifts as a Catholic to help the poor. Peter Maran shows up in her living room and says, you know, I heard about you. And so it's really his vision that they take on over the course of many years.
